The Hotel Argos in Cappadocia, built on a mountainside overlooking a quaint volcanic landscape is so unusual that its existence is hard to believe. It was created on the site of ancient ruins, caves, and underground tunnels that have been transformed into a one-of-a-kind hotel. It is perhaps the most unusual and intriguing hotel in Turkey bringing together the history of two millennia, identity, hospitality skills and a modern take on design and technology. As in any hotel rooms here are divided into several categories from standard to Splendid suites, but within each category they differ greatly in proportion and decor.
The rooms are located in seven houses connected by underground passageways and their design is inspired by the architecture of the past. Some of them include fragments of monastic quarters. In its layout the hotel resembles a castle complex with courtyards, terraces, balconies and magnificent views of the Pigeon and Rose Valleys. The designer staked on timeless materials, sandstone and wood, and each room is decorated with kilims, antiques, candles and art objects placed in special illuminated niches. Most rooms have a wood-burning fireplace as well as wireless Internet and a docking station. And each of the Splendid suites has its own indoor pool.
The restaurant and lounge with Seki outdoor terrace, and the wine cellar with Chapel private dining room can seat up to 100 people and serves regional and international cuisine. In the lounge, guests can enjoy cocktails and snacks from the small menu on the sofas with magical views of the Pigeon Valley. Meals from the restaurant can be ordered from the room 24 hours a day. The cellar beneath the restaurant houses the largest wine collection in the region, consisting of 22,000 bottles. Among them are those made from grapes grown in the hotel's own fields.
